The Instrument Store – Where “new” means “NEW” and you can get a great deal on items in all conditions.
The Instrument Store is one of the nation’s largest online musical instrument retailers, and we are located in the Long Island, New York area. We do have a showroom for local purchases but we are not a traditional music store where our inventory “hangs on a wall” and is played by others and then sold as “New”. In our opinion, that is a great advantage for our customers. What does this mean for you? When we say an instrument is new, we mean NEW.
When you purchase an item from us, whether it is a guitar, sax, trumpet, mouthpiece or anything …. if we advertise it as new, you will receive an item that has not been played by anyone.
We sell tens of thousands of items online each year. The nature of online sales results in a very small percentage of items that are returned for various reasons …. Customers change their minds, order the wrong item, etc. If we have an item returned by a customer, we will not sell it again as new….. plain and simple. Our staff inspects each returned item carefully and categorizes it for resale at a discount to you. This can mean great savings for you!
Some of these conditions may be as simple as the box is scuffed and less than perfect. Most items have been played for a few minutes and are in like new condition. In our opinion, our “less than new” items often have much less use than an item hanging on a wall in a traditional music store.
We do have a store showroom and any item that hangs in our showroom would never be sold as new, it would be sold as a “Demo” or “A/B Stock” unit.
When you visit our website, you will see many items listed with a suffix in the description such as “Customer Return”, “A Stock”, “Used”, etc. The various conditions are described below.
We strongly encourage you to call or email us and we can explain the exact details of any item. You can use our Product Filtering Search to find items in a condition you might be interested in. We may have more than one of an item in any condition.
Item Conditions listed on our website:
New – You can buy with confidence from The Instrument Store knowing that when we say an item is new, we mean NEW! Period. Full manufacturer’s warranties apply and you can call any manufacturer listed on our website and they will tell you we are an authorized dealer.
Customer Return – These are products that are functionally and cosmetically equivalent to “New”, or they may have incurred a minimal amount of cosmetic damage because of customer handling. They have been returned to us by the original purchaser and are certified by our in house staff. We normally show these items on our website with the same photos as our new instruments because the photos could not show the differences in detail.
Like New - A Stock – These are products that are functionally “Like New” and may have a minimal amount of cosmetic damage. This could come from play testing in our store, handling in our warehouse, a classroom/workshop demo unit, or various other reasons. We feel that these items are just a bit “off” from a new unit, and since we hold our new units to the highest standards, we call them “A Stock”. We know our customers will be thrilled with their purchase. “A Stock” units may or may not include a manufacturer’s warranty, depending on the manufacturer’s rules. Please call or email to inquire about warranties. We normally show these items on our website with the same photos as our new instruments because the photos could not show the differences in detail.
B Stock – These are products that are fully functional and will have some amount of cosmetic damage. This could come from play testing in our store, handling in our warehouse, a classroom/workshop demo unit, or various other reasons. We have graded these items below “A Stock” because of the level of cosmetic faults. Our customers can get a great deal if they don’t need a cosmetically perfect instrument. “B Stock” units may or may not include a manufacturer’s warranty, depending on the manufacturer’s rules. Please call or email to inquire about warranties. We normally show these items on our website with the same photos as our new instruments but ask you to call for specific details or read the product text description.
Used – These are products that we feel have more than a few minutes of use but are still in perfect playing condition. We do not buy used instruments, so these “used” items were offered for sale as new, but may have extensive demo use or were returned after more than what we fell is minimal use by a customer per our generous return policy. We feel that they are below the grades described above but are still in excellent condition. The photos show a typical used instrument and the actual item will be the same or better than the photo. We encourage you to call or email us for exact details. Our customers can often get the best deals by purchasing one of our used instruments. All of our used instruments are fully returnable for a full refund if you are not happy with it.
